Today I didn't even plan to go hiking, but based on the weather forecast I spontaneously decided to go. I only started the hike near Unterkunkels at 11:30 AM. But I had not studied the map well enough, and the presumed shortcut through the forest west of Caschleira became a detour where I wasted 20 min or so. I don't recommend it. After that it was easy to follow the unmarked trail.

Halfway on my way up, I met a group of five hikers who presumably also had been at Simel.

Unfortunately, I did not spot any animals, except for some cows and calves in Unterkunkels.
The sheep and their herding dogs were obviously no longer in the area.

The weather was mostly cloudy, but the sun came out every now and then. At least it remained dry! It was quite windy at the summit of Simel.
