Chemispitz
This tour was combined with a short avalanche course, so the ascent took a bit longer than normal. The weather was great, even if the temperatures were very low. The snow conditions were near perfect, with a moderate amount of fresh snowfall on top of a solid layer of packed snow. The climb was rather easy, as we partially...

Risetenpass
This was the second tour of this year, the first being mainly an avalanche course. There was a lot of fresh snow, and the scenery was beautiful. The path was nearly flat in the beginning, only becoming significantly steep after we reached the flank of Riseten. The pace was fast: I could keep up, but I could not have gone any...

Fulfirstlucke
It was a warm early spring day. We originally planned to go to Isisizer Rosswiss, but due to the high winds, it was decided to climb to the pass between the two Fulfirst. After a short walk from Berghaus Malbun, we put the skis on. Skinning up was mostly straightforward, until we got to the steep gully leading to Fulfirst....

Silvrettahorn from Silvretta hut SAC
We took the normal route from the SAC hut to the ridge (Egghornlücke). At a leisurely pace, an easy 90' to get to the glacier. Glacier hike: It took us 90' climb to the S flank of Silvretta. There was not much snow, apart from near the end, so the glacier walking was easy. The ice axe was not used. S Flank (T4+) Getting to...

Wageten
The weather had been consistently bad, and this was the first couple of sunny days. I decided to try out Wageten! The first part of the hike is relatively steep on a good trail. When you reach the end of the cableway, it flattens and widens until you reach the alpine trail. There it is steeply through the grassy flank on good...

Regitzer Spitz via Leiterli Fläscherberg
A nice T4 with SAC Kamor, as a replacement tour for Speer. After a flat walk, we enter a steep forest and climb the first hill. We then descend steeply into meadows. Then the final ascent begins. There are two ladders, each around 5m high, with densely placed steps. The first one leads to a rocky traverse, with wide footholds,...

Durch St Galler Oberland
SAC Toggenburg was arranging a similar 2-day tour on the 23rd, but I could not join, so I though to do this in one day, since the weather was good. I decided to cross the whole mountain plain of Flumseberg. To me it seemed doable: about 1500m of climb and 20km of distance, so somewhat less than marathon in total effort. I took...

Calanda Huette / Haldenstein Calanda
This is the first large group hike I organised. I knew that some of the participants were able to hike on steep terrain for long distances, while some of the others only had limited capacity. There were also a lot of constraints on the dates. So I ended up selecting Calanda Hut as the interim goal. The idea was for the weakest...

Dejenstock
(This route was originally suggested by SAC-SG) Starting from Rhodannenberg, follow the road, then climb sharply north after about 1km. The way is mainly through on the south side through forest and pastures, over a steep path via Lochstafel, and then Schiiterboeden. At that point, one leaves the mountain trail and turns...

Oros, Serifos
West of Livadi, there is a large mountain plateau. This can be reached over many routes, none of which are clear paths. This describes one of the routes, from the east side, over one of the pinnacles. Follow the road from Livadi, until you reach a staircase going next to a house. Then follow a faint path, until you reach a...

Petrias via SE ridge, Serifos
There are three main routes to Petrias. The easiest and longest is over the NW, through dense low vegetation. It is slightly shorter to use the south flank, following the faint path north of the chapel at the pass. There are also two small peaks south of the chapel which are interesting to scramble on. However, the SE ridge is the...

Trails north of Palio
West of Kavala there is a set of trails through forest, shrub and rocks. Here are some exploratory traces. They are all done early in the morning, and last no more than 2 hours, due to the heat.

Vorder and Mittler Goggeien
This was my ... fifth visit to this mountain, with the excuse of putting in a new summit book (I left the old one there, I don't know who has to pick it up). Route Description Getting to the saddle. The first part of the hike is over fields, and then next to a stream with waterfalls (T1). When you exit that area, you walk...

Biel to Taubenloch
Today was an easy hike with members of the research group. An easily accessible hike, because it is close to work, there are no technical difficulties, and it is really short. We were initially aiming to start from Frinvillier, but their train was delayed, so we started from Biel at around 8:40. We passed a lot of time...

Frinvilllier: Sentier des Echelles/Falaisse
This is a nice hike on my commute route (5m from Biel) , so I thought I'd tackle it. After a short walk on a road and through a tunnel, you arrive at a cairn. It is easy to miss the entrance to the path, but it is marked with some small blue/white markings. The way through the forest is steep and a bit slippery, but I was...

Mittel Goggeien (partially)
I went up Mottel Goggeien... at least the climbing block (II?). Immediately aftewards, an exposed narrow passage followed. I had exhausted my willpower reserves at that point and turned back, but I think there was a possible easier route. I will be back.

Dos d'Ane
This is the fourth time I've been here recently, and the first time it was not thoroughly wet, so I decided to climb over the ridgeline. The ground still relatively wet, but the rocks were dry, so not too slippery overall. At the parking lot just before the Ferme Robert, there is a small sign 'Chemin de Chomeurs' behind which...

Hoher Kasten
An easy jog to Hoher Kasten through the clouds, then breaking into the sun. It took me a bit more than an hour to do the 900m climb, the conditions were good. I was mostly jogging, though I switched to walking when it was too steep. The view from Hoher Kasten is pretty nice: it's the first time I was there even though I passed...

Selun
There was snow up high, and I always wanted to try Selun. There was not a lot of snow in the valley, so instead of carrying the skis all the way to the snowline, I decided to unpack my old snowshoes. I wanted to try it first on snowshoes as well, before committing myself to a ski attempt, perhaps next year. Now, that was not a...

Stockberg (partly)
Started off a bit late yesterday morning. When I arrived at Stein it started raining heavily. I went up on the west side, partly on roads, and then finally reached snow at 1000m or so. The ascent was mostly OK, though the snowdrifts were really deep in places, and I had trouble moving quickly. My kick-turns are also not up to...
