Petrias via SE ridge, Serifos

There are three main routes to Petrias. The easiest and longest is over the NW, through dense low vegetation. It is slightly shorter to use the south flank, following the faint path north of the chapel at the pass. There are also two small peaks south of the chapel which are interesting to scramble on. However, the SE ridge is the most interesting and has very few thorns and other vegetative obstacles.

To access the ridge, it is best to follow the normal trail after Chora until you reach a wide bend to the left. There you can easily scramble on the the ridge on good rock.

The SE ridge is mainly walking grounds, with some easy scrambling sections. Since there are no marked paths, care must be taken to choose an appropriate route. Most of the rock is pretty stable, although you should of course carefully check any holds where you need to commit for steeper, exposed terrain. I would rate the specific route I followed as a T4, though it might be possible to make it slightly easier or harder.

The wind and sun are both important factors. You should not start too late, as the temperatures rise rapidly after sunrise. The wind is also important. On a still day, you can overheat, but if it can be very windy, and then the climb becomes dangerous.
