On the fifth day of the mountaineering course, it was time for something a little more challenging. We waked up at 6:00 at refuge Saint-Laurent and left around 7:00, following the path in the direction of Col de Prafleuri. After about one hour and a half, at a small lake (2874m), we deviated from this path towards the glacier at Grand Mont Calme. Next, we ascended towards a pass (ca. 3060m) on the north ridge of Grand Mont Calme.
This north ridge consist of relatively easy rock climbing (PD), there's really only one pitch which poses some difficulties (smooth rocks, not a lot of grips). It took us 1:40 for the ridge, but I imagine that for more experienced mountaineers 1 hour suffices. We descended via the West ridge (F) towards the same lake we passed earlier on.
So much for the mountaineering, the last part of our route consisted of normal mountain paths over the Col de Prafleuri, to Cabane de Prafleuri, where we had a drink and rested a bit. At 17:30 we started our final ascent, Col des Roux. From here it was another 40 minutes to refuge La Barma, where we slept.
