Hike classification: 3 stars (nice, but not special)

An interesting, alternative option to visit the Pilatus is to reach it by hiking along an elongated ridge. This tour starts in Gfellen (Postbus), and a first longer ascent along marked paths (T2) brings us to Risetestock (nice views over Entlebuch). From here onwards,  more or less the ridge is followed. Everything is marked, and in most of the exposed parts a fixed rope is installed. These exposed parts are found in the ascent to Mittaggüpfi (T3), in the descent from Widderfeld, where also a small rock band is passed with help of fixed ropes and hands (T3, I) and on the ridge between Widderfeld and Tomlishorn (T3). This is not a very calm route and although few people cross all this ridge (1900 ascent meters), all the individual peaks are popular and accessed from the side valleys. However, this route is by no means crowded, nice views are guaranteed (in case of sunny weather) and often ibex can be spotted. Crowded is the pilatus (tomlishorn and esel), but it has the interesting possibility to go down by cable car, as such reducing the amount of descent meters.

Route: Gfellen- Mittlisthütten- Risetestock- Stäfeliflue- Tripolihütte- Mittaggüpfi- Felli- Widderfeld- Gemsmättli- Tomlishorn- Esel- Pilatus Bergstation.

Wetter: Sonnig, zunehmend hohe Wolken, wenige Quellwolken. Warm.
