Through CouchSurfing I met up with Michaela enjoy the fabulous autumn weather, which is now lasting even into November. Michaela picked me up at the Ziegelbrücke railway station. We drove up the winding single track road to Matt, where we parked the car at almost 1100 metres altitude.

----

We follow the hiking path to Unter- and Oberfiderschen. From here, a marked path ascends the Federispitz directly, but the ascent over the Plättllispitz looks more interesting on the map, so we take the path towards Stelli. Leftover snow conceals where the path leads into the woods, and we lose about 10 minutes looking around for the correct way. Further on as well, the path could do with some maintenance and there are a few 'interesting' moments (T3). From Stelli, things are simplified again, as it's just a matter of following the ridge up to the Plättlispitz. "Es Chrüz mit Sitz, das isch kän Witz", says the log book. Concise and accurate.

From the Plättlispitz, it's only a short hike across to the Federispitz, where again there is a cross and a log book. A point slightly north-east of the cross, known as Säntisblick, is in fact the true summit. Though it looks very exposed at first, there is in fact a clear trail giving surprisingly easy access to the Säntisblick (T3). It's well worth the extra effort. As the name suggest, the views towards Speer and Säntis are much better here than from the Federispitz summit cross. The view back to the cross with the Zentralschweiz in the background is also a great photo shot.

We descend over the Federigrat with great views, before heading back across towards Matt via Obernäten, Stelli, Oberfiderschen and Unterbütz.

----

The Federispitz has a great views in all directions, not just from the summit, but also from the ridge paths of the Federigrat and the Plättlispitz. Everything happens on marked hiking paths (T2-T3). Nothing challenging, but still very rewarding on a sunny day.
