Ofenhorn (S grat)

We parked our car in Fäld (1547m). As we knew it was going to be a long trip in the valley, we brought our mountainbikes and biked up 6km until the bridge over the Binna (1981m).

There we parked our bikes, and hiked up for 55minutes to the Binntalhütte (2269m)

The people who run the Binntalhütte are very nice people  , hospital and serve good food!

We had breakfast (with fresh baked bread!!) at 5.00am, and we left at 5.30am, unfortunately its was very foggy and -5c. We found our route to the Eggerscharte (2791m) without to many problems.  Up at the Eggerscharte was 10cm freshsnow. To go down to the south side (Italy) the route was steep and very snowy and icy. So we decided to rappeldown and arrived without slipperies on the Italianside.

From their we walked up over rocks and snowfields up to S ridge of the Ofenhorn. Just under the ridge we found an icefield where we could climb up to the rocks just under the summit The last bit was a little of easy rockclimbing (1st degree) and we summited the Ofenhorn (3235m) in 5 hours. We had some delays because of the snow.

We went down on the east side over the glacier to the Hohsandjoch (2901m). This was easy and the Glacier was almost without crevasses.

 The trip down to our bikes was endless.. and we were really happy to arrive on our bikes. This day we walked more than 18km, climbed 1000 M, descended 1400 M,. it was a pleasure to bike down the last 6km.

 Its has been a fantastic tour and we would recommend this tour very much!
