Büelenhorn (2513 m) is a peak very close to Davos, between the Dischma and Flüela valleys.
I started my ski tour at 9:00 o'clock at the golf course in Davos Dorf (during the winter, this golf course is used for cross country skiing). It was -11° C, so at the beginning it felt quite cold. First I walked along the road passed Duchli and up to "In den Büelen", before I put on the skis. From there I mostly followed the forest roads where some skiers had ascended earlier. The existing ski tracks were really very helpful, and I could follow them all the way to the summit of Büelenhorn.
The view from the summit was magnificent, with blue skies and no clouds at all. It was also rather mild, and not much wind.
The snow was more or less powdery and good for skiing down all the way to the forest line. Getting through the forest was not so easy, and further down along the forest roads was not that exciting. Overall, when descending the same way, snow shoes may be the better choice for this tour.
In total, I counted nine other skiers or snowshoe hikers on Büelenberg and Büelenhorn. Three of them headed straight down the NE flank of Büelenhorn.
Remarks:
- The avalanche risk was "2 - moderate" according to http://www.slf.ch
