Eggishorn, 2927m; circular hiking-tour round Eggishorn (Tour 1/4)
The same procedure as every year…? not exactly, because this year we went for a 4-day-big-mountain-trip with our friends from Padstow (UK-Cornwall) in the Wallis. We spent one day around Eggishorn and the next 3 days we spent on a wonderful high altitude hikers tour from Binn to Visperterminen over 3 passes, the Saflisch-, the Mäderlicke and the Bistinepass. Total approx. 5'500m up and down.
Day 1: With the Fiescher-cable-car we travelled up to the Eggishorn - it was a very easy entry to our tour. From the mountain station we hiked up to the Eggishorn, 2927m. We enjoyed the wonderful 360 degree view - Aletschgletscher; Eiger, Mönch, Jungrau (all 3 mountains from the opposite view, from behind); Matterhorn and many another …peaks.
A small footpath led us to the Tällisee, a nice place with a good view over the Aletsch- and Fieschgletscher with Finsteraarhorn in the background. From there we hiked directly down to the Märjelesee, next to the Aletschgletscher. We knew that you have to do this tour once in your life, and we met a lot of people (sometimes crazy school-classes with terrible equipment…)
Following the track we walked alongside the Aletschgletscher, passed a lot of sweet smelling flowers of different species and colours…The gentle walk round the Bettmerhorn ended for us at the Fiescheralp and we travelled back down with the cable car to Fiesch. Here we picked up the post-bus to Binn for the night - we spent a night back in time in a lovely hotel, the Ofenhorn. We can recommend this hotel and the food - it was marvellous.
With the ‘warm up’ completed, the real tours could begin.
For the other 3 tours look at: "Saflischpass"; "Mäderllicke" & "Bistinepass"
