This tour is dedicated to Fred, our American Friend! He is reason we made this tour because based on the weather forecast, I had never got up at 06:30! ;-)
We took the (probably) second cablecar to Niederrickenbach where we started our tour to the Glattegrat. The route follows more or less the summer hiking trail via Ahorn and Brändlisboden to the Brisenhaus. This first section is ascending only slightly and can be mastered without difficulties (L, 2h). The snow-covered firs and the virgin hills made the ascension particularly beautiful and enjoyable.
The second part between Brisenhaus and the Glattegrat is a bit steeper with one hillside that reaches about 32°. Reaching the ridge was excellent: New, fantastic views towards the southeastern mountains and pleasant sunshine! (WS-, 1.25h)
The downhill was just fantasic. More or less virgin hillsides and 30-40 cm new powder. This alone was worth getting up so early this morning!
At the Brisenhaus we enjoyed a delicious vegetabile soup and a (or two!) piece of apple pie before we savored the rest of the excellent descent as the route was still mainly untouched! Desending along the climb.
