Fulfirstlucke

It was a warm early spring day. We originally planned to go to Isisizer Rosswiss, but due to the high winds, it was decided to climb to the pass between the two Fulfirst.

After a short walk from Berghaus Malbun, we put the skis on. Skinning up was mostly straightforward, until we got to the steep gully leading to Fulfirst.  There we had to do a some kick turns. Perhaps I was out of practice, but I had some trouble kicking my downhill ski clear of the snow.  Overall, we maintained a decent pace, but not so hard as for me to feel tired.

After a brief rest at the top, we begun our descent. Given the high temperatures and early spring conditions, the snow was highly variable. Near the top it was kind of compressed powder and easy to steer through. Later there were some icy patches, soft snow, crunchy snow and finally heavy slush. My technique was still not that good.  I could not ski continuously without my legs felt quite tired. On the positive side, I was mostly in control and I only had two light falls.

It was great that SAC Rhein organised this nice outing and Roland's route selection was great. The conditions were not ideal, but maybe for me it was better like this than a thick powder layer.
