Before the Rock Fall: Sciora and Sasc Furä

The loop hike from Bondo to the Capanna Sciora, Capanna Sasc Furä and back to Bondo used to be rightly famous for its very alpine feeling. The highlight was the Viale, or Viäl, a narrow grassy and precipitous ledge that lead from the Sciora hut in Bondasca valley to the Sasc Furä hut in the Trubinasca Valley, just below Piz Badile. For those not accustomed to heights it could be nerving, though the exposed parts were secured by chains.

Owing to a massive rockfall from Piz Cengalo, much of the area below Cengalo has been declared off limits by the local authorities. The Sciora and Sac Furä huts are closed (or closed most of the time), and certainly the Viale is no longer open. One should inquire about the status of the area before venturing there.

So there remains the memories of a wonderful hike.
