In St-Gingolph, cross into France and take the first road on your left; you'll see the signs for the GR5 trail, which will take you to the town of Novel. Continue on until you get to Le Daley and a paved road; you'll see a sign with directions back into Switzerland. Follow the sign and head down the paved road for 100m to a muddy trail that gets you across the border (there's even a sign) and over to a service road, where you'll find the Swiss yellow signage. (You could get up to this point without crossing into France.) Now head up the road past a farmhouse (they have great raclette cheese there) and follow the white-and-red markers up to Col de la Croix. Now the trail becomes harder to follow; you head down to a farmhouse just above Lake Lovenex, then up to a saddle and into a basin with lots of scree, where the paint markers are fewer and farther between. After you hit a second saddle, you have to drop about 150m on a steep trail to a creek at the top of what is ominously known as the Tombeau des Allemands (Grave of the Germans). Now you start climbing again, and in a short while you hit a second creek. If you look up, you'll see the paint markers up above you. Don't climb up the actual creek bed, but use the dry creek bed that runs parallel to it. At this point, you need to use your hands a bit, and the rock can be very slippery. Then you just head straight up at an insanely steep angle, but the trail is good and the terrain is friendlier. The trail takes you through a grove of trees and you eventually come out on the meadows in the La Pecheux basin, where you end up on the gravel road that winds up from Taney. You can either follow the road to a farmhouse nearby and continue on up the easy ridge trail to the top, or you can just go straight up to the summit area: yes, it's steep, but not as steep as what you just came up. To get down to Taney, just follow the gravel road all the way down.
