Piz Miez / Cimalmotta (2834 m) is a rather unknown mountain peak 2.5 km south of Innerferrera. It lies exactly on the border between Italy and Switzerland. So far there was only one hikr report for Cimalmotta (by
roko), and that is already 9 years ago. The peak is not mentioned on gipfelbuch.ch. And as expected, between Alpe Motta and the summit of Cimalmotta I did not meet or see anyone.
Start of the hike at 8:40 AM in the village of Innerferrera. I followed the wrw marked trail in the direction of Lago di Lei/Staumauer (T2). At Alpe Motta I headed uphill in direction WNW. At the beginning across grass, and later with more and more bushes up to elevation 2200 m. Generally the difficulty is T3, but in one place I managed to get into a short T4- by going too far left. Between elevation 2300 and 2400 m, there were two snowfields. I did not need to cross them, but the lower one served as a reference for my route when seen from below.
Near P.2445, I headed in direction SSW, and after elevation 2500 m comes a fairly steep area with a lot of loose scree and rocks. The slope is at least 35° in some areas. There were some snowfields, but I didn't have to cross them. Generally I would rate this area T4-.
Further up, shortly before the summit comes a short but steep area with big rocks and boulders. They are mostly stable though. Difficulty: T4.
At the summit I enjoyed my lunch, and took about an hour break (included in the total time given for this hike). The weather became gradually better, and more and more of the surrounding mountains tops came out of the clouds.
For the descent I followed the same route.
Equipment:
- Hiking sticks
- Gaiters
- Ice axe (not used)
- Crampons (not used)
