Splendid tour to remote Finsteraarhorn, which is both the highest summit of the Bernese Alps and the highest point of Kanton Bern.
Small incident before the tour: A cat pissed into my rucksack after I had spread it out for drying in my garden. Fortunately I could rent a replacement rucksack from Bächli.
Day 1 (29.8.2016): Very early trip from Basel to Grindelwald. With Jungfraubahn up to Jungfraujoch. Descent on Jungfraufirn down to Konkordiaplatz, then up over Grüneggfirn to Grünhornlücke, and from there on to Finsteraarhornhütte. Very crevassed.
Day 2: From Finsteraarhornhütte to saddle between Agassizhorn and Finsteraarhorn, then from there over NW-ridge to the summit of Finsteraarhon (4274m). Magnificent views. Same way back to the hut.
Day 3: From Finsteraarhorn over upper part of Fieschergletscher and Galmigletscher to Oberaarjoch. Short rest at Oberaarhochhütte (unguarded), then continuation over Oberaargletscher (very crevassed) down to Oberaarsee and Grimselpass.
