As a warm up for our climb of both Ortler and Piz Palu we climbed Roetlspitz / Punta Rosa (3025m) and Monte Scorluzzo (3090m) as a day trip from the Passo dello Stelvio / Stilfsersjoch. After driving all night from the Netherlands (and passing the Reschensee + drowned church), we arrived early in the morning in Trafoi, were we set up our tent at the local campsite. Directly after, we drove up the Stelvio Pass at over 2700 meters. From here it is only some 300 vertical meters to both Scorluzzo and Roetlspiz. Two 3000-meter peaks, each at the opposite side of the passroad. Our initial plan was to climb only Monte Scorluzzo, but after a quick summit we decided to go for Roetlspitz as well. Two of the easiest 3000ers in the Alps and great for acclimatizing. The views to the Ortler Group are especially rewarding. After our climb we drove back to Trafoi for a well deserved Beer & Pizza. The following week we would climb many more peaks such as Hoher Angelus, Vertainspitze, Ortler and Piz Palu.

Monte Scorluzzo (3090m) - T2+
After driving up the Stelvio Passroad we parked our car and headed south. There is a dirt road heading up the mountain in a Southern direction. The road is going towards the summer ki area. Follow the road until you reach a small passway. There is a big signpost stating the way up to Monte Scorluzzo. Follow the trail up along the south flank of the mountain until you reach the large wooden summit cross. One of the easiest 3000-meter peaks in the Alps. The gradation is not much harder than T2. Maybe the trail along the south flank to the summit is T2+ to T3-.

Roetlspitz / Piz Cotschen / Punta Rosa (3026m) - T3-
From the Stelvio passroad we followed the teail up to the Dreisprachenspitze with the mountain hut on top. Maarten stayed there and drank a cup of coffee while I made a quick ascent of Roetlzpitz. Follow the trail to the north until you reach the Sella da Piz cotchen (2925m) From here follow the trail along the east flank up to the summit of Monte Scorluzzo. The summit part is T3 at max. Until the pass T2.
