Three Varfuls near Magura

Northeast of Magura is a ridge with three named Varfuls (varful = mountain, or top) that separate the Magura highlands from the town of Zarnesti. The hills are a nice backdrop to the village. They can be easily explored.

The path from Magura Center is blocked by fallen trees and shrubs. We were invited by the farmer to the left (west) to hike across his farm, to join the original path later on. Once on the top of the ridge, another path with a red bar leads across the top of the first and the third Varful, while the middle hill needs some mild bushwhack.

The first and lowest is Varful Prislopului (1299 Meters) - barely a bump in the ridge.

The second is Varful Galbinarea (about 1350 Meters). When approached from the East the summit looks steep and jumbled, and the trail circumvents it on its north side.

The third, and highest is Magura Mica with 1375 Meters, which provides some alpine feeling. Seen from Magura Mica, the Varful Galbinarea reveals its soft side, and we decided to make a quick dash to it, so as to miss nothing.

There are many ways back to Magura center (or Villa Hermani), and our trail is just one suggestion.
