Trail on the Rocks

This is a very cool trail. The area around Echternach and Irrel is known for its bizarre rock formations, and the Felsenweg showcases some of its best. There are, in fact, several Felsenwege, numbered one to six, providing hiking fun for several weeks.

This trail is technically not at all difficult, but it is a fairly tough hike (and rated 'hard' by some guides). With more than 21 km it is rather long , and continues with much up and down all the way. To cut it short would be a shame, as the interest keeps up till the very end. We therefore recommend to do it in its full length and glory. Take provisions and plan for the whole day.

One is, in any case, never tempted to speed along. There are countless photo opportunities - especially in autumn. Some of the trail's attractions incude: The Liborius Chapel with its wonderful view across Echternach, the Falkenlay (lay meaning rock), the castle of Weilerbach, the Geierslay, the Halsbaach valley, the Hohllay with its amphitheatre and caves, the Labyrinth, and the Wolfsschlucht.

The absolute elevation of the trail is not very high - 162 meters the lowest point and 344 meters the highest. But you will cover a total of 650 meter elevation gain and loss during the hike, and your knees will notice it unless you regularly do this kind of stuff.
