Samaria gorge

This is probably the most famous gorge in Crete.  The total hike is 18km long, with the hike in the gorge itself being 13km.  There are a lot of facilities and far too many tourists.  Nevertheless, it's worth it.  Most of the gorge is quite shady and there is plenty to drink. 

Initially, follow the rough steps for an easy hike down.  The part of the walk near the sea is slightly harder since it is on large pebbles.
