Started this hike after lunch at Untertrübsee. Walked the paved road to Haltenhütte. Once past Haltenhütte, we found a marked trail, which we followed to a junction with "Scheidegg" painted on a rock. At 1,900m the trail got faint; managed to spot a few more fading trail markers before giving up and heading straight up to the top of the ridge (Scheidegg). Followed the ridge a short bit to the end (Scheideggstock). Didn't have much better luck finding the remnants of the upper trail on the way down, even when starting from the old gate at the top.
Other than the lack of a well-defined trail, the only obstacles were some stinging nettles and thistles growing on the steep meadow. No exposure (if you stay clear of the edge of the ridge at the top) or snow remaining.
Back down at Wanghütte, we followed a trail down the Arnibach. Couldn't find the start of this trail, but found a gate at the far end of the meadows, and from there on the trail was clear.
