If you happen to be in Guadalaja, there are lots of opportunities for hiking activities in the Sierra de Guadarrama northwest of the city, but it takes at least one hour by car to get there. For those searching for some vertical meters or mountain-biking close to the city there is the option of climbing up to the plateau of Alcarria from the lower plain, where Guadalajara is situated.

Especially when driving on the highway to Valdenoches from Guadalajara there are two promontories with falling down steeply from the altiplane, to the west the Pico del Águila, eagles beak, and to the west the Peña Hueva, see Minimap.

Both rise from about 750 m to about 1000 m at the height of the altiplane. There are rural roads on both for MTB or hiking. One could try to climb also the steep eroding slopes of Pico del Águila directly.
