Rock Climbing in Permet

The City Stone (Guri i Qytetit) used to be a landmark of Permet. In modern days, some of the Palati (apartment buildings) of Permet rise above the rock that sits on the bank of the Vjosa River. Many visitors do not know the rock exists, and if they see it, they do not think of climbing it.
 
It took us several years and many visits to Permet to figure it out. It is a short evening stroll, for hikers preparing for more strenuous undertakings in the Zagoria valley, tourists pausing in Permet for the night before visiting the Lengarice hot springs, off-road enthusiasts trying their nerve on the Frasher loop, or mountain bikers doing all of this at once. There is a ladder at the rear of the rock. Members of the DAV Summit Club (who seem to frequent Permet) should climb the rock with the hands in their pocket.
 
And for the north-face faces scoffing at the idea climbing a rock in Permet, we suggest trying to hike Papingut (or Maja e Drites) - the summit of Nemercke mountain - which can be seen in the evening light from the top of the city stone in Permet. See also post number 80437 on hikr.
