Knockbrinnea, Beenkeragh-Carrauntoohill

We start this strenuous mountain hike/scramble from the Lisleibane Car park (V 825; 875). From here our first objective is Knockbrinnea spot height 847m in a SW direction. This entails a strenuous and steep pull all the way to peak. From here we take a W direction to spot height 854m, on the day of hike the views all round were spectacular.
From 854m we continue in a SW direction to the obvious peak 1010m Beenkeragh and on a clear day the view W from towards Carrauntoohil and along the Beenkeragh ridge (arête) will literally take your breath away. (Lunch break)
One now has to make a decision whether to return to start reversing the outward journey, or to continue to Carrauntoohil via the ridge. Caution this ridge is advisable for experienced mountaineers / hill walkers used to scrambling and very steep ground only.
NOTE; I have delibertly omitted the ridge crossing out of fear that inexperienced people might try. Experienced people who wish to cross, will find there own route.
 
 
After reaching the point 1039m Carrauntoohil, one must now head S towards (V 803; 843) and pick up an obvious trail towards the devils ladder at (V 806; 836). We now descend the gully carefully scrambling to the bottom (V 812; 841).The walk back to car park is along well worn trail. Which takes us between Lough Gouragh and Lough Callee. Further on we pass beneath the rock formation known as the Hags Tooth and later beneath the Hags teeth. Follow the trail back to start point. The days walk should take approx 6 hours to complete.
