How to Install External Counter Example: Sitemeter

First, you have to create a new Sitemeter counter. Go to Sitemeter registration page

Registration Form

First two pages explain Sitemeter rules. Click the "Next" button twice and then fill in the registration form.

"Your Site URL" - must be "http://www.hikr.org/", not your hikr homepage.
"Your Site Name" - whatever you want
"Codename" - is like a login name. This field cannot have spaces, umlauts, accents etc. Choose something appropriate, for example your hikr.org login.
"Your Current Time" - choose current time

Then press Next.

Personal Info

"Email address" - you should provide a working email to receive a password.

Other fields are optional. Click "Next". Next page is also optional. Click "Next" again.

Confirmation Page

Verify if your information is correct, and click "Next". Your account is created. Now, go check your email for the login (called codename) and password.

Create counter

You can choose one of  multiple presentations for your counter on this page

Grab your counter code

Go here and copy the code that is shown in a big text field (from "<!-- Site Meter -->" to "<!-- Copyright (c)2006 Site Meter -->" )

Install your counter on Hikr.org

Go to your "Statistics" page on Hikr.org. Paste counter code into the text field and click "Add counter". If everything is ok, you will see the message that your code was accepted and a preview of your counter. Click "Add counter" to confirm.

Test

The counter should appear on your pages. Click on your counter to see stats.

If you don't like the presentation return to this page, and choose another presentation. You don't need to change anything on Hikr.

Counter can be removed at your "Statistics" page
