A big surprise for me: I saw a California Sea Lion in the American River, pretty close to Fair Oaks. It was about 10 feet long.
I did not expect that these mammals swim this far upstream in fresh water. This place here is about 100 miles from the SF Bay!
Found out that it does not seem to be all that uncommon that the sea lions come and "visit" the Sacramento area.
