Badlands National Park, South Dakota

Badlands National Park is in the southwestern part of South Dakota and includes some incredible hikes. Of course, there are several shorter marked trails scattered throughout the park, but there is also some awesome backcountry hiking, especially in the "south unit." It is desert-like terrain with buttes, spiky ridges, and twisting canyons. Make sure you've got water with you and be alert for rattlesnakes.
