First of all you have to find out, at what time the sun rises. At the bottom you will find easily a parking space. Start a few minutes before sunrise and you will have magnificent views from Lake Wanaka and its surroundings.. For us it was the best hiking experience we had in NZ.

The ascension is quite steep (2.5 hours if you go fast), at latest you will feel that when coming down.. the last kilometre is again impressive, when you have a view on both sides of the mountain (lakes, snow fields, mountains..) The peak itself is not very suitable for extensive picnic below the antenna, but still fine for having a rest.

After descending, jump into the car, drive towards Wanaka and after 1km turn left and refresh yourself in the lake.. after all, you deserve it!
