As Anna described in her report we did an easy nice hike together. Ever since our last hike together in July we tried to meet again, but for one or the other reason it never worked out. Even though the weather forecast wasn’t the very best we met at 8:56 AM in the train from Salgliains to Susch.

From Susch we walked up to Suot Chastè along the wide concrete and later gravel road and due to too intense talking we managed to take the wrong road at the beinning. However, a shortcut through the fields brought us back on track.

From Suot the path up to the Piz Chastè is marked white/red/white but you don’t always see path traces or the next mark - so sometimes you have to kind of guess where to go. However, it is quite obvious and not very difficult but just rather steep sometimes.

On the peak we had lunch in a rather sunny and not too windy place. The wine I brought along first didn’t want to open, and, when I finally managed to get half of the cork out and half in, it turned out to be corked wine and we had to poor it out instead of drinking it :-(

Soon it got too cold for everybody (except Zina of course) and we explored the interesting ridge to Piz Murtera a little bit for a future project. After returning to the Piz Chastè again we did a little photographic experiment (for the result see this picture and this 360 qtvr) and then walked back down to Susch more or less the way we came up.

As Anna mentioned, on the walk up, as well as on the way down, two bearded vultures (Bartgeier) “visited” us. First we thought they were eagles, because of their size, but after looking at the pictures I realized that they were bearded vultures. If a bird with a wingspan of almost 3 meters flies over you head, that’s very impressive to say the least!
