Please find herewith a photograph of the Mahabalipuram Lighthouse at Mahabalipuram, 65 km from Chennai, one of the biggest cities in India.

The Lighthouse is managed by Department of Lighthouses & Lightships. Built in 1900, and active, it has a focal plane of 42 m (138 ft); white flash every 10 s. 26 m (85 ft) stone tower with lantern and gallery are unpainted and the lantern dome is painted red. 2° Fresnel lens are in use.

Behind the lighthouse, and higher on a hill, is the 8th century stone temple, from where this photograph was taken.

Built atop a large rock, this is one of the best known and most often visited lighthouses on the east coast of India.  Site and tower are open daily 2-4 pm.
