Salmone – a peak between Valle Onsernone and Valle Maggia

I arrived in the Ticino the day before my hike and spent the night in a hotel. I think the Prado bar (hotel and internet café) is probably the cheapest deal you can get in town; I don’t think anybody beats the 35 Fr per night. Not much comfort but all I wanted to do there is sleep anyway.
In the morning I took the first FART train to the Centovalli and got off at Cavigliano. From there I walked up to Salmone. The weather early in the morning looked very promising and the sunrise was superb. With each hour in the day the sky got darker, the winds got stronger and colder. Shortly before the summit of Salmone it started snowing and the wind almost blew me down in the valley. Good thing I brought gloves and a hat with me…
I actually had planned to go further to Madone and Pizzo Peloso, however these conditions didn’t make it very appetizing at all and therefore I decided to descend to Auressio in the Valle Onsernone instead. The buses there don’t really run all that often, but I was lucky: there was one in less than an hour. Since I didn’t feel like waiting there at the bus stop, I decided to also walk to Loco.
Except at the beginning, the paths on this hike were all extremely well marked sometimes too much for my taste, almost every 5 meters!
