In september I participated in a one-week mountaineering course for beginners, led by the Belgian mountain guide Helmuth Van Pottelbergh. He taught us everything we needed to know to be able to climb routes of difficulty F-PD. The first day, we practiced at the Ferpècle glacier, with ice screws and other ways of making anchors (e.g. Abalakov). The second day, we went to Pas de Chèvres, via an ordinary mountain trail (T3), and did some easy rock climbing there. The first pitch was the steepest bit, after this it's more like scrambling and there are less anchors here, so we used some slings. We quickly reached the small summit between Pas de Chèvres and Col de Riedmatten and then descended via the normal path.

As an experienced climber, it might not really be worthwhile to take the ropes with you, to only climb such a short bit, but in this case, in the context of a mountaineering course, I found it to be a good way to practice all the relevent techniques.
