You can make it more difficult if you want to! Akron Ohio – hiking in two Metro Parks along the Cuyahoga River (aka “the burning river")
Since I lived in Ohio for more than five years I go and visit friends and family there once in a while. Following is some information about this area and a hike report about a fun little excursion along the Cuyahoga ([http://cougar.eb.com/soundc11/gg/ggcuya01.wav pronounced like this]) River. The US state Ohio is not exactly a...

The Grand Tetons mirrored on the surface of swamp Grand Teton National Park
Just off of the main road through the Grand Teton National Park, a bit North of Moose Junction (in the South of the park), there's a little rest area from which a small trail leads towards the swampy shores of the Snake river. Look for the signs to Schwabacher's Landing. The trail is only a fairly short hike, absolutely flat (thus not exactly...

Devils Tower with Ponderosa Pine and Burr Oak near the ranger's station The Devils Tower, La Tour du Diable, Teufelsturm
The Devils Tower is located in the northeast corner of Wyoming in Crook County.  This is a bit west of Rapid City South Dakota, the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore and Deadwood.  We recall that Wild Bill Hickok was shot in the number 10 saloon in Deadwod while holding the dead man's hand: two aces and two eights:  The wooden grave...

Zion Canyon Welcome Station Area Zion Canyon
This place was absolutely awesome!  You enter in the bottom of the canyon, so you are greeted with the beautiful straight up rock walls, raging rivers, and more!  We did several small hikes.  Our favorite would be the hike to behind the small falls.  We also saw several deer on this hike.  The outstanding crystal clear water...

Looking westward across the Narrows, South face of Longs Peak Longs Peak 4346 m
There is no higher peak, if you were to fly east from here across the United States, across the Atlantic until Mont Blanc.  This peak was seen by the Stephen Long expedition of 1820 first on June 30 of that year and his name appears on it as early as 1825. Long would have seen the mountain from 9000 feet below its summit from the high plains of...

Large Airboat Myakka State Park
This is a great place to hike on flat ground under beautiful southern tree canopies.  A boardwalk out into the marsh makes for great bird and small animal watching.  Plenty of alligators line the shorelines. There are also rental cabins and campgrounds.  You can take a boat ride down the river by kayak, canoe,...
