Stickers, banners, buttons

Hi,

After the sticker, I was thinking about to prepare some banner and button that people can put on their homepage, blog, site to make some advertising to hikr.org.
So I did my first try of a banner. It's not something finished, but already enough for a feedback.  Also I would like to develop several sizes and themes with different slogans.

The one in the example is about skiing and snowshoes-hikes.
Here its story: this winter, we were having fun with snowshoes, when we met a friend, who is an old  mountain guide. He said this sentence: "Der richtige Bersteiger macht seine Spüre".
The slogan just sounded into my mind the whole day and every time I went on snowshoes.

What do you think about the idea? What do you think about this banner? Have you some ideas for others slogans?
Please, criticize.

PS: The photo is taken from Naesi. If we decide to use it, we will of course ask for her permission.

Cool one but... where's the logo? Do you intend to do a flash/animated version (at least where the catch phrase is) or add the hikr logo somewhere on the photo?

The old mountain guide probably said
"Der richtige Bergsteiger macht seine Spuren"

I also like the one:
"Der richtige Bergsteiger hinterlässt nichts ausser seinen Spuren"

it usually is said together with:
"Man nimmt nichts mit ausser seine Eindrücke"

Hi Anna,

I don't like this logo. Reasons:

-) Many users (including myself) will not consider themselves as "mountaineers" (=Bergsteiger) but rather as "hikers" (=Bergwanderer)

-) Most folks don't like being told what's right or wrong in hiking/mountaineering. "Der richtige Bergsteiger..." sounds somewhat arrogant to me.

-) It doesn't usually make sense to make your own trace in the snow...as long as the going is uphill.

-) An action shot is a good idea, but I'm not sure whether a skier is ideal. It might leave the impression that this is mainly a skiers' site.

I'd suggest some sentence with a less specific meaning. Also, English might be preferable, unless you wish to limit yourself to the German speaking world.

"The only way is up", "Life is outside", "What goes up, must come down", "The world ain't flat" ...some more brainstorming and you might find a catching phrase (make sure it's not copyrighted...)

regards, zaza

Actually, your analysis is very interesting.

I didn't think about all those things, but you're right.

Actually, the day our friend said this, he was really upset with the entire world. Not that I was in a better mood, when I did this banner.

I really like your slogans. Some brainstorming from the community would really be nice.

Ciao

i would appreciate a cool banner for a webpage. however, the proposed image is way too large in my opinion. there are some standard formats for such banners.

one of the most popular formats within the blogger scene is 80x15 px. see e.g.:
http://kalsey.com/tools/buttonmaker/
http://kosmar.de/archives/2007/06/07/blog-micro-buttons-80px15px/
http://www.blogbuttons.de/blogbuttons/5

however, there are surely some other formats, as 80x15px is quite small. as an example, züri.net uses a bigger format:
http://zuri.net/default.asp?action=info&upd=1

well, i have a button on my webpage using the hikr-logo on the top left. evil as i am, i just hotlinked it ;) the format of the logo is not standard but my webpage is neither. therefore, i dont mind.

Hi phono,

The idea of a button is really good. Actually, I was really thinking to do several sizes for the banners, not only the big one.

For the button, we had one for randonneur.ch:

Personally, I find those buttons too small, and my eyes hurt to read them.
I like much more the button of zuri.net and I'm thinking to do something like that.

Also hikr.org is not a standard website, so let do something more original ;-)
