Hikr Game: How to play

Hikr game is about hiding, searching and finding "treasures". It is similar to an Easter egg hunt or geocaching.
Who can participate? - Any hikr.org user can participate in the hikr game.

What is a "treasure"? - A treasure is a small piece of paper with a unique secret code printed on it. A treasure sheet has two parts. You hide the small top part with the treasure ID and the secret code. The bottom part of the sheet is used to write down the treasure location and other information related to the hidden treasure.

I found a hikr treasure, but I'm not a hikr.org user. Can I play? - Yes, but first you have to sign up here then follow point 3 or 4 of the instructions below.

How to play?

1) Create and hide a new treasure.

    a) First go to the game page www.hikr.org/game/. There you can create a new treasure. Notice: after you click on "create a new treasure" it will appear in the list of "My Treasures" and will be marked as "inactive" (not yet hidden)

    b) Click on the "print" link in order to print this new treasure

    c) Hide the new treasure somewhere in the universe. Remember: you hide only the top part of the sheet, the bottom part is a "receipt" for you. You use it to write down the treasure location etc.

    c) Back home, go to the hikr.org game page, navigate to the corresponding treasure in your treasure list and click on "declare". Then choose "New Treasure" as the treasure type. Fill out the form; provide the treasure location, coordinates and comments about this treasure. You can also associate the treasure with a recent hike report and a photo from this report. If you don't, you have to provide a date when the treasure was hidden and region where it is hidden. Click on "Preview" and double check the information you provided. If you are sure about your description click on "Confirm and Save" otherwise "Edit Again". Once the treasure was declared, it cannot be edited any more (yet).

 
2) Find and replace a treasure hidden by another player

    a) On the game page choose a treasure you want to find and replace.

    b) Before you start the treasure hunt, create and print a new treasure. Take the new treasure sheet with you.

    c) Find the treasure and replace it with your treasure. Take the treasure you found back home.

    d) Back home, go to the hikr.org game page and register the replacement: locate your new treasure in your treasure list, click on "declare". Then choose "Treasure replaced" as the treasure type. Provide the ID and secret code of the treasure you found. Fill out the rest of the form. Click on "Preview" and double check the information you provided. If you are sure about your description click on "Confirm and Save", otherwise click on "Edit Again".

    Once you confirm and save, your treasure is added to the "treasure history" chain and another player can find and replace it.

 
3) Find and remove a treasure. 

   a) On the game page choose a treasure you want to find and remove.

    b) Find the treasure and remove it. Bring the treasure you found back home.

    c) Back home, go to the hikr.org game page and click on "I found a treasure". Choose "Treasure removed (but not replaced)" as the treasure type. Provide the ID and secret code of the treasure you found and removed, and then fill out the rest of the form. Click on "Preview" and double check the information you provided. If you are sure about your description click on "Confirm and Save", otherwise click on "Edit Again"

    Once you confirm and save, your finding is added to the "treasure history". However, since you removed the treasure without replacing it, this treasure location is taken out of the game.

 
4) Find and leave a treasure.
 

    a) On the game page choose a treasure you want to find.

    b) Find the treasure and write down the ID and code. Leave the treasure where it is.

    c) Back home, go to the hikr.org game page and click on "I found a treasure". Choose "Treasure found and left there" as the treasure type. Provide the ID and secret code of the treasure you found, and then fill out the rest of the form. Click on "Preview" and double check the information you provided. If you are sure about your description click on "Confirm and Save", otherwise click on "Edit Again"

    Once you confirm and save, your finding is added to the "treasure history" and the treasure location will stay in the game, for other players to find.
