A so-called "Signal Tree" from the Native Americans. This tree marked the northern most point of the portage trail, here they had to carry the canoes from the Cuyahoga to the Tuscarawas River.

Difficult? Maybe some overweight people wouldn’t fit between the narrow gap ;-)
